New local level unemployment data shows the area saw a slight increase from September to October. The Virginia Employment Commission data shows the Winchester metro area's jobless rate went from 4.9% in September to 5.0% in October. That compares to a statewide rate that rose two-tenths to 5.5%. Clarke County and Loudoun County both had 4.3% October rates, up from 4.1%. Frederick County unemployment climbed slightly to 4.6% and the City of Winchester's ticked up to 6.0%.
