The Virginia State Police 118th Basic Session graduating class is a historic one. The 89 new troopers who received diplomas at Friday's ceremony at Meadow Event Park in Caroline County is the largest class in the agency's 80-year history and features a record number of female graduates with 13. The members of the 118th spent 37 weeks training and received nearly 1,700 hours of classroom and field instruction encompassing more than 100 different subjects. Their final phase of training is spending at least six weeks with a field training officer at their individual duty assignments. Three of the new troopers are from the Winchester area-- Joshua Myers of Winchester, Derek Russell of Clearbrook and Corey Garrison of Gore.
