Film Impact In Virginia

The economic impact of the film and television industry in the Old Dominion totaled over $394 million last year. That's up 14.5 percent from 2010. The over 3,800 jobs in the state attributed to the industry in 2011 represented a 30 percent increase, with the contributions in state and local tax revenue totaling nearly $60 million. Governor McDonnell says the growth demonstrates the effectiveness of Virginia's incentive programs for film production. Some of the movies filmed in the state last year include Clint Eastwood's J-Edgar, the Ben Affleck directed-and-starring Argo and Steven Spielberg's Lincoln.
